Do you believe in love at first sight?

If not, you must not be a grandparent.

My first grandbaby was born this morning. Caroline Savannah was born at 6:01 am January 8, 2013. This morning was a little whirlwind of activity, possibly a preview of the whirlwind this little girl is going to be. Mother and father are doing fantastically well, the grandparents (first time for all) are ecstatic, and the aunt and uncles are extremely happy. A great day.

A little background. My daughter had ovarian cancer at age 15. She went through a summer of chemotherapy. We weren’t sure if there might be problems having a baby and whether there might be complications stemming from the chemotherapy she went through. I spent the last eight months or so worrying and praying, every day, for her health and the health of her baby.

Unlike so many these days, the parents did not want to know the sex ahead of time. So we didn’t know until the father, my awesome son-in-law, came into the waiting room about 6:45 to tell us we had a Caroline. A few minutes later, we got to go back into the room to meet her.

Do you believe in love at first sight?

I do.
