Today the Department of Labor announced that the unemployment rate had risen from 8.2 to 8.3 per cent.

Later, the White House, through one of its main economic advisers, felt it necessary to point out that the increase was actually from 8.217% in June to 8.254% in July. Seriously? They felt it necessary or even advisable to point this out? That revision is enough to convince me that the economy is really recovering strongly.
