Last night we went to the Fort Worth Symphony’s performance of Handel’s Messiah. I’ve loved listening to it for years, but never had been able to see it performed in person. The soloists and the chorus were mostly from Southwestern Theological Seminary, and it was enjoyable to hear and see it performed. There is an immediacy in watching a performance that you never can get from a recording. And hearing the entire work in a live setting makes you focus more on the words and you hear the entire story Handel was trying to tell.
This is my second favorite part of the work – “For Unto Us A Child is Born.” “And His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, the mighty God, the everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.”
