Another of the non-governmental agencies we visited was SUCHI which stands for Social Unit for Community Health Improvement. It is a part of the SCINDeA network I’ve written about before. SUCHI works with schools and women’s self-help groups and is based in Chittoor, a small town near Vellore. We were greeted by lovely tribal dancers and served coconut water fresh from the coconut while we heard about their work.
We then broke into groups and visited a school nearby in a tiny village, before returning to hear from some of the women they have worked with and helped. I’ll tell a bit more, but this sets the stage for the next many “Face of the Day” postings, taken during our visit to SUCHI.
